Vorn finds himself low to the ground avoiding the torchlight, managing to make it up to an archway. As he turns the corner a larger than normal rat regards him carefully. Vorn attempts to stab it, knowing Vandal had sensed wererats in the area. It hits but does not seem to do much damage, at this time another rat appears from the water and begins to run towards a door at the end of the corridor… The group – hearing the ruckus, the group join Vorn trying to dispatch the rats. However, one soon beings to change and grow larger, showing the human features of its wererat form. While knee-deep in fighting, the ceiling above the party collapses, partly trapping Vandal underneath. At this, the sewer water drains away, revealing the refuse below. Mechanical noise can be heard in the walls around them and the wall behind the party begins to move towards them, soon to crush them all… The party begin to move up the corridor, climbing over the rubble and making it to the door, all but Agrippiana and Άdus who are hit with a sticky glue substance emanating from the moving wall, forcing them together and to the floor. Thraback and Saphira move to help with Thraback burning off the majority of the substance and Saphira using her magic to levitate them past the rubble. By using Sacred Flame Agrippiana is able to rid them of them both of the glue, injuring Άdus, but quickly healing him. Vandal bursts through the door ahead, sensing more wererats, out for blood. He Vorn and Lukas sweep in to quickly cut down the two creatures, however as the last one is about to be beheaded by Thraback it pleads for mercy…. The party agree to hear him out, asking him about the large ornate mirror in the room. Decorated with numerous dragons in a macabre display. The creature leads us to the mirror, our reflections first change to a large green reptilian eye and then shrinks to show us a man in green robes… Venom Fang. His sickly voice echoes through the mirror to us. “A pleasure to see you all again even if you have picked up a few more strays… My power is greater now and you will destroy this Cult of the Dragon for me because you are good and that is what you will do. I have the ear of the Duke, I am no servant, the dwarves I was able to have removed easily. Once I have the White Tower of Par Salin the last great human empire will fall and Tiamet will rise again. I will sit at her side and advise her, I will be the power behind the throne. Beneath Citadel Fellbar lies the portal I need to summon her and you are too far away to stop me…”
Then Venom Fang begins to sew the seeds of discord among the party while Agrippiana mentions Broka the blue dragon. “I know a dark secret… you think you know so much, that you know each other – who can you really trust here?” “Lukas, your father sold his soul to feed himself, he was a mockery of your family name, pathetic. He played two sides and suffered the consequences. You may hide behind those holy robes all you like, who do you trust?”
“And you Άdus, your are filth who tries to play god with the dead. Glasya will not protect you know…”
He is smug as the party look from one to the other, suspicious and unsure. “Well, who do you trust now hmm? You know exactly where I am if you wish to find me. I can tell you many a secret..”
He cackles a hideous poisonous laugh as the mirror beings to cloud over, and return to its normal state.
The rat breaks the silence by begging for his life and promising to be our guide to the lower levels of the ancient city. Telling us of the Wights and their undead army below. The group move forward, unsure and suspicious of each other – who has been keeping secrets?
Until next week!
