We return to our group just after the intense battle with the Drow in the Shadowfell. As the group gather themselves, the quickly realise that Dante is no where to be seen... Agrippiana checks her backpack, slightly panicked but finds that everything is still there. While doing this she finds a long cylinder tube and a note attached that she does not recognise. Upon opening the tube, it appears to be the map that she wanted, which Dante was carrying. The note reads in Dante’s hand, “The sacrifice I make… please think better of me…” Agrippiana, though glad to have the map, is concerned about Dante’s disappearance and the tone of his note. The group investigate the portal from which they came, and find that it has been closed from the other side. Vorn searches his brother’s body and finds a magical 8 sided ring embossed with Drow symbols, and puts it on. It appears to grant him the ability to turn into a gaseous form, to hide, to sneak or to gain the upper hand. Saphira searches the room and uncovers a large amount of Drow coins. They are black obsidian, also with eight sides. Suddenly Vorn’s new ring begins to glow and a cloud of black smoke appears before him, slowly taking the shape of a female Drow. Breeza appears before him, the group recognise the family resemblance immediately. She sees the bodies strewn across the cavern, “Looks like that didn’t go as expected. Turns out Nezznar wasn’t much use after all. Well, you are now the 2nd son, you have taken his place. Your are, as they say, “off the hook” Enjoy your trinket brother.” And with that, she vanishes as quickly as she appeared in a cloud of smoke. Just as the group try to digest that encounter, Aralon begins talking to himself as far as everyone else can see. Ictar is communicating to him only, “Looks like I’m stuck in this sword – that went well! Glasya found out what I was up to, this is what I get! She has sent another called Lorkan – a Cambion. I’d be careful if I was you, he’s her offspring!”
It is then that poor Gundrun, our dwarven guide, pleads with the group to leave this place as its melancholic influences are beginning to take their toll.
Thraback notices a throne in the room and decides to make himself comfortable as the rest of the group look for a way out. Vorn happens to notice the Drow symbols on the throne and recognises that this is a transportation device. He finds three groves and runs his hand up them, unlocking the portal. The group make their way back through the portal and return to Wave Echo Base, with Vorn taking the body of his brother with him.
Vorn, Agrippiana and Lukas conduct a funeral ceremony of sorts and burn the body of Nezznar while the two clerics pray for him. The group then take a substantial rest.
On waking and searching for a way out the group come across a locked door which Vorn is easily able to open. We find ourselves in a dark, dank room. Gundrun is overcome with joy as we find a badly beaten dwarf shackled to the wall. He calls to his brother Nondro. Though happy to see his brother, Nondro is more concerned with the veins of Mithril which he has discovered by scraping the surface of the cave during his imprisonment. Thraback literally rips the shackles off the wall with his bare hands and teeth… releasing the dwarf. Luna is able to light up the room. Gundrun turns to the group filed with emotion, “The 15% I offered still stands and the same goes for the new members of the party. You may wish to go back to Phandalin to your manor, we will being the work here.”
Stay tuned for part two of this adventure!
